Lori was longing for an update for her tired deck. It was an eyesore and was starting to fall apart. She also wanted a space that her pets could enjoy outside. We took some measurements and set to work on a solution that would meet her needs while respecting her budget.
After some planning, we put together a sketch to help Lori visualize our plans. Here, you can see a reimagined back porch with a small patio. We designed it with a simple flat roof to keep the costs low. The porch was completely enclosed so that the pets can enjoy the sunshine too!
Lori was excited about when she saw the design. It was time to move ahead!
As with any project, we need to plan for contingencies. During demolition, we notice that the wood sections of the foundation were damaged due to exposure to the elements. This is why proper deck installation is so crucial.
We needed to repair this entire area before moving forward. Thankfully, we had anticipated this potential setback.
Paver patios are one of our favorite projects. We compacted a base of gravel, then finished with coarse sand for under the pavers. We always string a line to make sure that everything is square and properly graded. Look at those beautiful straight lines!
All in all, the project went smoothly. We started when we said, we finished as we planned, and Lori was happy to have a new place to enjoy those lovely summer evenings.
